Disadvantages of malls and supermarket
While supermarkets are convenient and offer a wide variety of products to consumers, they also have their disadvantages. Some of the common disadvantages are:
Impact on small businesses: Supermarket's vast size and high purchasing power can sometimes lead to unfair competition and negatively impact small local businesses.
Low profit margins for producers: Supermarkets often demand lower prices from their suppliers to offer competitive deals to customers. As a result, farmers and producers may receive lower profits for their products, potentially impacting their livelihoods.
Wastage and Food Loss: Large supermarkets may lead to increased food waste due to the perishable nature of some products and their extensive inventory.
Impulse Buying: Supermarkets are designed to encourage impulse purchases, leading customers to buy items they don't necessarily need.
Environmental Impact: Supermarkets often use excessive packaging for products, leading to increased plastic waste.
Despite these disadvantages, supermarkets remain popular due to their convenience and affordability. However, it's essential for consumers to be aware of these drawbacks and make conscious choices that align with their values and needs.

The spread of supermarkets has impacted on the small retailer i.e. the local butcher, green grocer etc. Many high street shops lose out to the "one stop shop" process imposed by supermarkets.
