Although many people say a router brand doesn't matter as long as it's a 802.11n router, I have had bad experiences with Linksys and Belkin. I have a Netgear now and it's the best router I've owned so far. I've heard bad reviews on Linksys and Belkin but haven't heard nearly as many bad reviews on Netgear.

USB Wireless Modem?

A modem is the device that allows you to connect to the Internet. A router uses wires to connects from the modem to other computers to share the Internet connection. A wireless router uses wires to connect to the modem but connects to the other computers through a wireless connection. A modem with a built in wireless router only uses wires to connect it to the internet source meaning you can place it any where in the house that has access to an Internet source.

What are some reviews for the a DSL modem wireless router?

The ADSL modem wireless router works decent according to reviews. However, I would replace your router with one such as Netgear, or a well known brand name router. Often, these will offer warranties. Routers are not cheap, so the decision is important.

What is the difference between a modem and wireless router?

Modems are hardware devices that translate an analog signal into a language your computer (or other digital device) can understand. They are often used to create an Internet connection through telephone ("dial-up") or cable lines. Wireless modems are typically used in portable devices such as laptop computers, mobile phones, and PDAs. These modems receive a signal over the air, such as from a cellular network, and not from a physical ground line. Routers are used to share the Internet connection created by a modem with one or more other machines connected to it. To use a router for anything other than creating a local network, you would need to connect it to the Internet via a modem. Wireless routers can perform this function without the need for ethernet cables. In this case, each machine needs a compatible wireless network adapter that uses an antenna to receive the signal broadcasted from the router. Because household routers are almost always used with modems, some hardware manufacturers have begun combining the two in a single physical device: the modem router. A wireless modem router is typically a hybrid of a traditional modem (which receives data through a physical cable) and a wireless router (which broadcasts the connection over a wireless network).

Can you have 2 wireless routers at the same time into 1 modem?

Yes and no. The no is that a modem can only have one device plugged into it, a router of some sort. The yes being that you could have multiple wireless routers, acting as access points, on one network. As long as they have unique internal IP addresses and are broadcasting different SSIDs on different channels (unless you are bridging, which is way beyond this) then you could have different wireless networks on the same connection.

Is a wireless gateway a modem and a router?

there has been a misunderstanding between modem and router. some people use only a modem to connect wirelessly and some use a modem and a router. The fact is there are two types. first type is a modem with built in router, second is router itself. this will clear your mind. you don't have to buy a router to go online, just a get modem with router built in
