What are some possible solutions for dwindling resources?

Population planning is the first and most obvious solution to the problem of limited or dwindling resources. Instead of allowing everybody to have as many children as they feel like having, it can be useful to establish some kind of social guideline or rule, as China did with the one child policy. The fewer people there are in the world, the more resources there will be per person.It is also true that we can find ways to exploit resources that so far have not been exploited. We can try to do more with the oceans, which do cover the great majority of the Earth's surface. It may also be possible to make more use of the resources of outer space. We do derive many uses from orbital satellites already, but there is much more that could be done. For example, we can use solar power in space to generate energy which can be sent to Earth in the form of a microwave beam. That is just one possibility. We could do manufacturing in space, using mineral resources from the moon or asteroid belt, and energy from the sun. Transportation costs are still high, to either leave or return to the Earth, however, various technical solutions are possible.

We can also try to be more efficient at what we do, and to waste less resources. LED lighting uses less energy than fluorescent lighting to produce the same amount of light. There are innumerable areas in which we could be more efficient.
