There are actually a few similarities between weathering and erosion. For starters, they both change the appearance of Earth's surface whether by making it smooth or rugged. Weathering can change the appearance of important things in our country like The Statue of Liberty. People have to paint that every few years.

The role of erosion and deposition in the rock cycle is that erosion transports weathered material from all three types in the rock cycle , at the point of deposition where it can litify into sedimentary rock !

Erosion and deposition have a few things in common. First They both deal with rainwater and they both have to do with rivers. If this was not enough information then you can search erosion and deposition on this website and that should answer your question. Thanks.

They both act to 'remove' material such as rocks, soils or minerals either by chemical breakdown or physical movement.

Water may be utilized in either method to enable the process.

A venn diagram for weathering and erosion?

Weathering is the breaking down of rock and erosion carries it away. Both of them contribute in some way to the formation of new soil.

Is erosion chemical weathering?

No. Erosion usually involves the transportation of material from one place to another place. Chemical weathering involves the reaction of natural Earth materials with acidic fluids, causing dissolution.

What is the difference between between weathering erosion and deposition?

Erosion is the moving of something, weathering is the breeaking down, and depositon is depositing some particles or minerals to some area such as a delta. The difference between weathering and erosion is very simple. Weathering can be caused by both chemical and mechanical. Mechanical Weathering is when rocks are broken into smaller pieces WITHOUT changing them chemically. While Chemical Weathering occurs when the chemical composition of rock changes. This happens rapidly and mostly in tropical areas. Erosion is when water, gravity, ice or wind breaks down pieces of sediment into smaller, smaller pieces. This is natural. Deposition is exactly what the previous answer said. Examples MAY include a river depositing pollution, Oil, sediment, water, fresh water into the ocean. -Richlee 2k or just Google it for a more professional answer

Why weathering and erosion happen in the Grand Canyon?

Erosion occurs because a river flows through it (it is a feature of river erosion), and also the fact that it has some narrow parts, there can be high wind speeds so wind erosion also occurs. Then when you consider weathering, you must consider what kinds of weathering can occur. The Grand Canyon has a large diurnal range (different between highest and lowest temperatures) resulting in ex-foliation, but is quite dry so it is unlikely that biological or freeze-thaw weathering occurs. It is a National Park, so it should be considered that human erosion is minimal or non-existent (apart from erosion caused by careless tourists). Overall, the Grand Canyon has a lot of exposed rock, so there are plenty of opportunities for weathering and erosion to occur.

Are weathering and erosion catastrophic events?

No, most of them are slow and not that harsh events which make the rock older and older. In other cases some catastrophic events make erosion become faster. Erosion is a slow process in which the rock becomes worned out. Weathering is the weather which erodes the rocks slowly.
