There are six classes of mollusks. The Gastropoda, Monoplacophores,Polyplacophores(chitons) ,Scaphopods, Bivalves, andCephalopods. The Gastropoda are the most varied and the widest collected shells.

Here are some of the many types of mollusc:

  • Caudofoveates and solanogastrates (Aplacophorans) - worm-like molluscs covered with calcareous spikes, but without a shell
  • Chitins - flat molluscs with calcareous plates
  • Monoplacophorans - deep-sea molluscs that are similar to limpets
  • Scaphopods (Tusk shells) - tentacled molluscs with a long, cylindrical shell that is narrower at one end but open at both ends
  • Bivalves - molluscs with two shells that are mirror images of each other
  • Gastropods - molluscs with either one shell or no shell, having a distinct "foot"
  • Cephalopods - tentacled molluscs either without a shell or having a shell
