∙ 11y agoThe PC (Personal computer) clones based on the original IBM PC machine, or the Macintosh designed by Apple.
Currently (since 2006) both PCs & Macs run the same type of microprocessor, the Intel x86 architecture multicore chips. So that eliminates the PowerPC from the home market.
However there are and have been many other types. At this time several different ARM based microcomputers by different companies and running incompatible operating systems are the next microcomputer competitor. Most of these run either Apple's iPhone OS, Android OS, or some variant of Linux OS.
