The metric system basic units are the meter, liter, and gram.
There are more than three base units in the metric system, but the three most common are meters, liters, and kilograms.
The three most common base units are meters, liters, and kilograms. The last one is kilograms because it is an exception. It should be grams, but it isn't.

metric measurement is the system based on multiplies of 10. ie. there are 10 millimetres in a centimetre, 100 centimetres in a meter, 1000 metres in a kilometre. Similarly for other measurements such as the Litre, or the kilogram.
The second is common to both systems.

Convert the non-metric units to metric. It is a converter to the metric system, an international decimalised system of measurement, that is the common system of measuring units used by most of the world. As far as I am aware, the second (measure of time) is the only unit common to the English and metric system.
Only three countries still cling to the "English" system, whereas the whole world uses metric. The SI units were established in 1960 as part of a review of the metric system used at the time; it uses metric units because it is the current version of the metric system.
The metric system is an international decimalised system of measurement, first adopted by France in 1791, that is the common system of measuring units used by most of the world.
