What are the 3 types of rainfall?

Some fancy names have been given to this question, Convectional, Orographic and Frontal. I will stick to the more simple types such as Lite falls , mediums falls and heavy or flooding rains. I am also including mist and fog because they both contain water vapour.

Also, you can look at the different ways precipitation occurs.

When the temperature is above zero, rain occurs.

When the temperature is at zero, sleet or frozen rain occurs.

When the temperature is below zero, snow occurs.

The 3 types of rainfall is convectional rainfall, relief rainfall and frontal rainfall.

Convectional rainfall is when the sun heats the earth, the convection currents rise and forms clouds which then rain and the process starts all over again. Because of the convection currents we call this process convectional rainfall.

The second type of rainfall is relief rainfall.

When a warm current meets a mountain it goes up and forms a cloud. Then, the rain falls down on the windward side of the hill.

The last type of rainfall is Frontal rainfall.

When two air masses meet together (warm and cold), the warm air rises on top of the cold air mass. So we get rain.
