What is lathemachine and describe its main parts?

A lathe is a woodworking or metal working machine that rapidly turns the item to be lathed, A blade is then brought to the item in the case of wood a chisel can be used by hand and in the case of metal the blade is held in a specially made jig , the blade slices away metal until the round shape required is acquired. An example of an item that can be made on a lathe is a Baseball bat.

Who is monarch machine tool?

The Monarch Machine Tool company was founded at 614 Oak St in Sidney Ohio in 1909. It would become a leading producer of engine and toolroom lathes ranging from swings of 10" to 30"+. Monarch was a leader in lathe development by patenting the cone clutches found on all lathe aprons for controlling the longitudinal and cross side feeds. Monarch also pioneer the use of helical gears in the headstock, force lubrication and flame hardening of the bed and other wear items. In 1955 Monarch was the first U.S. machine builder to build and demonstrate a NC lathe. Monarch would be a major NC and CNC lathe builder into the early 1980's. In 1963 Monarch purchased the Eudlane (sp) Machine company, builder of drilling machines, in Cortland, NY, and renamed it Monarch Cortland. In 1968, Monarch bought Stamco in New Bremen, OH. In 1973 Monarch bought the English lathe maker Dean, Smith and Grace. By the beginning of the 1980's Monarch was seeing record profits from all divisions, but by the end of the decade Monarch was hard hit (along with the rest of the U.S. machine tool industry). Monarch try to regain market share in the CNC lathe market by introducing the Ultra-Center with its patent tool turret changer which allowed the lathe to change 24 tools in less than 30 seconds, and to do complete change over in less than 6 minutes. It also introduced the smaller Predator CNC lathe that was originally designed by Dean, Smith and Grace, just before Monarch closed this division in 1993. These lathes help win market share but it was not enough to keep the lathe division profitable and it was sold to the Lucas group in 1997, which continued operations under the name Monarch Lathe LP. Monarch Machine Tool change it name to Genesis World Wide and concentrated on the Stamco coil processing equipment. Genesis sold off the Cortland division in 2000 which keep the name Monarch Machine Tool Co. In 2002 Genesis World Wide went into bankruptcy.

What is the function of a tool room lathe?

There are a number of different types of lathe. We usually separate them out by whether they are for wood or metal (and other stuff like plastic). The things is, they all do essentially the same thing: they turn a workpiece between two centers and allow the user to apply a tool to remove material from the rotating mass of "stuff" being worked, or, as is said by those involved, turned. The earliest lathes did thi - turned the work so a tool could be used on that material. And we do it pretty much the same way today. The metal lathe most often has a chuck on the headstock (the driven end) in which work can be clamped, and this affords an "open end" on the material so it doesn't have to be supported at the "tail end" of the lathe to work the material. (You aren't turning between centers.) A number of metal lathes are computer controlled (the so-called computer numeric controlled or CNC machines), and they can do a lot of things very quickly and with a high degree of accuracy. And all if it is repeatable. Need some pistons made for your engine? We can do that. Many wood lathes have a faceplate attachment that a wood turner can affix a chunk of wood to so he can turn, say, a bowl. That way the wood can be supported on just the one end and the bowl can be hollowed out. There are lots of wood turners out there, and they make some fabulous stuff. We often say, "I'm turning (something) on a lathe." It could be a wooden bowl to mix pie dough in or a rolling pin for rolling out that pie dough. Certainly it could be any one of a zillion machined parts for aircraft or automotive applications, or just about anything else. There are a lot of things we use every day that have been turned on a lathe, though many of them may not be where we can see them, like a number of engine parts in a car. The largest part of the lathe (almost always) is the bed of the machine. It is the "frame" onto which the headstock and the tailstock are fastened. The headstock has in it the rotating (driven) spindle on which a chuck or faceplate can be fastened. On the bed, the top of it is generally machined to create the ways on which the tool rest or (in the case of a metal lathe) the carriage(with its cross slide and tool post) can sit and move precisely along the length of the bed. There are some other parts and a host of attachments to the lathe. Pictures may very well help you see things. Links are provided to the Wikipedia articles on the lathes, and a link is provided to some "lathe" video clips put up on YouTube. There are a lot(!) of short posts there on lathe work. Check a few out.

How does one use a woodturning lathe?

(Please note - the folllowing explanation is for wood latt NOT lathe) A piece of wood, fairly flexible, usually about two inches wide and about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick and as long as necessary. It is used for lattice work and is often found as a base for plaster walls in older homes.Wooden table legs are turned ona wood lathe - the wood lathe is used to make a square pole of wood round. How a wood lathe worksWood Lathe Basically, a small engine, usually electric, turns a set of gears. These gears are connected to more gears via a V belt (a loop of rubber, tightly on the two gears). The turning of the gears turns the lathe.Depending on what you are lathing, the actual setup of the cutting instruments varies. The best way to find out how to use a lathe is to go and take a course at TAFE.A lathe , as you most likely know, is a machine that spins a peice of wood at a high (or low ,depending on what you are carving) velocity. It consists a motor, tool rest, and peices of metal to hold the wood in place. The peices of metal used to lock the wood into place vary, depending on how it needs to be held. You use a chisle, (once again, different variaties of chisles) to carve the wood while it is spinning.
