The advantage of Android OS is how much it has proliferated with various devices, including smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, gaming consoles, and so on. Learning curve on this OS from a consumer's standpoint is fairly easy to use. Because of its open-sourced nature, it is modifiable (customizable) and is easier to distribute compared to most operating systems. It has a robust developer community as well, and has a large app library to choose from.
Disadvantages include fragmentation of the OS, as in it is not universally distributed across all devices. Reasons for this are there are so many devices out there and under various manufacturers that it makes it difficult to deploy across the board. Recently, deployment of the operating system has been going quicker, and with the introduction of Android's KitKat (4.4) OS, it was designed to run on not just new devices, but older devices too. The other disadvantage is that because of the open-sourced nature, manufacturers tend to install their own "skin" on top of the OS. By doing this, the user experience may be different from one device to another.
