"Soft cover" and "paperback" are two phrases for the same thing. They are contrasted with "hard-cover" books.
As stated above, typically paperback or soft cover books are sold in two different styles "mass market" and "trade." These are publishing terms, and a lot of the difference has to do with the way they are distributed to bookstores and the return policies (from the bookseller back to the publisher.) Trade paperbacks are typically more expensive and larger. Mass market paperbacks are the smaller size you will also see in drug stores etc., and are sometimes called pocket books.

∙ 12y agoHardcover is hard, while paperback is like paper-plastic. Paperback is cheaper but doesn't last as long as hardcover. Hardcover is more expensive and last longer. Comes with book jacket. Hope I helped

∙ 10y agoA hardcover book usually costs about $5 more than a paperback book (soft cover). This is an estimated cost which is higher because the materials it takes to make a hard cover book costs more, plus there is more paper used.

Just got my new Kobo touch. Personally i think that E books sort of ruin the magic of a real Paperback/Hardcover book. Most people go for it because it will probably save you alot of money. There's something about original books that the technology of an eBook doesn't have. But maybe that's just me, I think that e books will over come these "books" with it being cheaper and all.
