A magnet creates a magnetic field, which is directive with two polar regions (termed north and south). A magnet attracts non-magnetized ferromagnetic materials (iron, steel, nickel) , and each pole attracts oppositely-charged magnets, while repelling like charges and poles.

does magnet sink or float?

Although it does not appear to be magnetic, water, like all matter, may display magnetic characteristics when exposed to a large enough magnetic field. A extremely powerful magnet repels water by a little amount. You may do this yourself if you have a neodymium magnet.

What is the definition Characteristics of magnet?

The loadstone; a species of iron ore (the ferrosoferric or magnetic ore, Fe3O4) which has the property of attracting iron and some of its ores, and, when freely suspended, of pointing to the poles; -- called also natural magnet., A bar or mass of steel or iron to which the peculiar properties of the loadstone have been imparted; -- called, in distinction from the loadstone, an artificial magnet.

magnetizing is basically making an un magnetised metal become a strong or weak magnet to make a weak magnet you simply rub a magnet against it to make a strong magnet you heat it to a very high temperature and it will help if you wrap alot of wire round it when connecting it with the circuit. You will also need a very big power supply e.g mains
