He's the sun-god (not to be confused with the Sun himself, Helios), god of light and music.
He was a beautiful young man, brother of Artemis (goddess of hunters and the moon). They both wore bows with them and were exceptionally good shots. He also had a lyre, and often played it and sang for the gods' enjoyment, at their feasts.
Apollo was also known as a god of oracles. The Oracle at Delphi was in his charge.
Proud, arrogant and cruel:

Rash and impetuous:
* killed his faithful lover, the bearer of his son, Asclepyos, over a raven's gossiping.
