Feathers are the soft material that almost completely cover most birds. It is also known as plumage. The feathers give the bird its color. The wings are the part of the body that make the bird fly and control the speed and direction of which the bird is flying. The wings also contain muscle and bone unlike the feathers and the wings actually covered by feathers along with the rest of the bird.
Wings aren't exclusive to birds, either. Bats have wings of flesh, bone, and skin membranes as did the now-extinct pterosaurs. Insects have wings that are an extension of the exoskeleton, and planes have wings of metal.

A feather is a highly complex skin structure that forms the outer covering or plumage on birds. They aid in flight, thermal insulation, waterproofing and coloration that helps in communication and protection.
