This varies from subject to subject.
These are the grades you should get if you reach the written level at the end of KS3.
The grades range from grade U ( a fail) to grade A*.
Anything above a C is seen as a pass ( C is an average grade, where as B, A, and A* is seen as higher grades.
You can only get a grade above a C if you take a higher paper, if you take a foundation paper you can only get a grade C or below. ( grade C, D, E, F, and U)

My sons will be studying for the Scottish Standard Grades (in the state system), but at age 16 I want them to go to Harrow School in England (private) and one of their entry requirements are for eight top grades at GCSE (or their equivalent). What would the equivalent be.???? Is it still 8 GCSE = 8 Standard Grades (but at the credit level)..??
