A mosque is the place of worship associated with the Islamic (Muslim) religion. Churches are the buildings used for worship by the Christian religion which includes Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Methodists, Baptists and so on.
A church is where (usually) Christians worship, and a mosque is where Muslims worship.

They serve the same basic purpose - namely, to worship God. If the building is built by Christians, it is called a "church", if it is built by Muslims, it is called a "mosque".
