There were a few primary effects:

1. The Partition Plan legitimized Zionist Jewish efforts to create a state and the plans were accepted by the Jewish Agency. This led to Jewish celebrations across Mandatory Palestine.
   
2. The Partition Plan was roundly rejected by the Arabs, both within Mandatory Palestine (anachronistically called Palestinians) and outside of Mandatory Palestine (the wider Arab World). This led to armed riots all across Mandatory Palestine.
3. Within the next few days, Arabs and Jews began fighting a civil war in Mandatory Palestine, which is sometimes called the Palestinian Civil War of 1947-1948, but is indistinguishable from the Arab-Israeli War of 1948-1949, save that (1) Israel had not yet declared independence, (2) British troops were initially trying to tamp down the conflict, and (3) foreign Arab states invaded the territory.
