Over exercising can hurt you for sure, it just depends on how much you go overboard. If you over-exercise regularly you can risk pulling or even tearing your muscle, because it is being put under such constant strain, at such a constant pace. So basically, when you over-exercise, you take the risk of having a injury, as you do with any exercise at all.

If heavy workouts are not something you're used to, you will be very sore for some days in the areas you lifted heavy. If you continue to do heavy workouts(I'm assuming you mean heavy in the actual weights that you are lifting, in whatever form that may be)you will see fast improvements in the strength, tone, and size of your muscles. Depending on your body type and what look you are going for or what your goals are fitness wise, will determine how much you should lift and how often. Don't believe those people who say that lifting heavy weights will ONLY make you look bulky.The people who say that, I have found, either don't work out, are fat, or are mesomorphs(a weird word for a body type that easily gains musle mass).Bulky muscles are created with very heavy lifting very often and usually acquired with the help of creatine and protein supplements. Sorry for the long explanation I am an exercise enthusiast who tries very hard to encourage everyone around me to do all they can to be healthy, look and feel their best, an do it right.
