What are the function of a super computer?

Supercomputers are used to process huge amounts of information at the same time. The average user would have no use for the capability of a supercomputer because supercomputers aren't really faster in the sense that they will perform a single task faster but that they can perform that task billions of times at the same time that your computer could do it once.

Imagine that you wanted to how many different numbers could be added together to equal 7 such as 6+1 or 4.5+2.5. Your computer could probably give you several hundred thousand to several million answers to that question a second. A super-computer could give you several hundred billion to several trillion answers to that question a second. Sadly a super-computer probably wouldn't play your computer game any better than your home gaming rig.
