What are the general physical properties of glass?

Glass is a transparent, amorphous solid, which is made of silicon dioxide, the main component of sand, Sodium oxide, Calcium oxide, and several other minor additives. Glass has low tensile strength, but high compressive strength and is just as hard as a knife blade (5.5 Mohs).
