Morphine is an Opiod Analgesic designed to relieve severe to moderate pain in patients and is a controlled substance.

Naloxone (or NarCan) is an Opiod Antagonist and is designed to reverse the effects of an overdose in opiates (i.e. Morphine). Most opiates have a longer half life (stay in your system longer) than Naloxone so administration may need to be repeated several times and the patient monitored for respiratory distress and o2 saturation as opiate overdoses can cause various dangerous symptoms which require supportive treatment alongside the Naloxone.

The drug Naloxone is generally used to treat people for an overdose of opiates (for example, morphine, codeine or heroin) in an emergency situation. It is sold under trade names including Narcanti, Narcan and Nalone.

What happens if you take a quarter of a suboxone and then take an opiate 9 hours later?

Suboxone is a combination product containing buprenorphine and naloxone. Buprenorphine is an opiate agonist meaning it resembles codein and morphine, etc. but does not produce the high that those drugs would. Naloxone is an opiate antagonist meaning it blocks those receptors from allowing you to have a high. Naloxone is in the combination to prevent patients from injecting suboxone since when injected, naloxone causes the patient to express extreme withdrawal effects. The key is, though, that when taken appropriately under the tongue, naloxone will not interfere with buprenorphine. Buprenorphine can then allow the addict to satisfy an urge without worsening the problem by causing as much addiction as something like morphine would. Essentially you get a fix of opiate, but it easier to be weened off of. -Pharmacist

What is the antidote of ketamine?

The antidote for morphine, and most other opioids, is a medication called naloxone, or Narcan. It blocks opioid receptors, blocking the effect of morphine, heroin, or any other opiate medication. The effects of naloxone are short-lived, however, and may require further dosing to keep the patient from slipping back into a coma. If a person has taken an overdose of morphine, they are usually given an opiate antagonist, such as Narcan. This acts very quickly in reversing the effects of the morphine, or any other narcotic. Narcan is also sometimes used in drug rehab; it helps the body to go through the withdrawal symptoms more quickly. But this must be done under the supervison of a doctor on an in-patient basis (sometimes while the patient is under general anesthesia), since sudden withdrawal of narcotics can cause serious or even fatal reactions.

What are adverse effects of morphine?

Morphine is the drug of addiction. You can get addicted to this drug with first injection. Other side effects are minor.

What is the route of administration antidote for morphine?

Naloxone is usually given by intravenous bolus injection, repeated every 2-3 minutes until a resposne occurs. It can also be given by intravenous infusion or if the IV route in unavailable, it can be given sub-cut though the response time is slower. A side note on this: Naloxone has a shorter half life than morphine, therefore the naloxone may be metabolised and removed from the body before the morphine. If the morphone plasma concentraion has not reduced to safe levels, the person could show the symptoms of overdose again.

Is morphine poisonous?

Too much of ANYTHING can be poisonous, even water (see water intoxication). If someone takes too much morphine they will stop breathing. If no one helps them with a reversal drug (naloxone) or ventilates them (rescue breathing) they can die.

What are the effects of mixing Tylenol with morphine?

It is not dangerous to take Tylenol and Morphine together because only one of them are narcotic pain relievers. This is why it is safe. Use care when taking Morphine as it depresses the respiratory system (breathing). Be careful with Tylenol too, as it can cause severe liver damage or even liver failure. Dr. Jacob M. Deese, MD

How do opiates and narcotics affectthe nervous system?

The nervous system produces its own version of morphine. (endorphins, dynophins, enkephalin, etc.) These intrinsic opiates act at different opiate receptors(mu, beta, and kappa receptors). Extrinsic opiates, like morphine, also fit into these receptors and result in the same effects as intrinsic body opiates.(morphine's pain relieving effects are mostly due to interaction with the mu opiate receptor). Hope that helps
