A television is a reciever just like a radio.
Radio recieves audio signal where as television recieves both audio as well as video.
1. Demodulator: The basic requirement of a reciever is a demodulator. In the transmission side, the audio/video signals are placed on a carrier signal to make it travel long distance. For example, we take train/ bus to travel long distance since we do not have enough energy to travel by walk. Similarly the signlas are too weak to travel long distance. So we do a modulation to transmit it long distance. A demodulator seperates the audio/video signal from carrier signal.
2. Amplifies: The signals cannot be used as such to drive the speakers or picture tube. So they need to be power amplified to drive the television. There are Seperate amplifiers for audio and video.
3. Speakers: To reproduce the sound we need the speaker. The demodulated audio signal is power amplified and fed to the speakers. Modern day television has much more Signal processors to improve the audio quality.
4.Picture Tube: Picture tube is also known as cathode ray tube. This has a phosporus coated display which produces illumination when electrons impact on them. The picture is reproduced by controlling the electron gun(which produces ray of electrons).
5. And finally power supply unit.
i think that the main part of the television is picture tube.........

The parts of television come from various sources. Some components, such as the screen, are manufactured by specialized companies that produce display panels. Other parts, such as circuit boards and processors, are often produced by electronics manufacturers. These parts are then assembled into a complete television set by TV manufacturers.
Early televisions were made of several parts and although they very quickly became integrated into a single unit, they were still referred to as a set of equipment. The name of "television set" has remained in use ever since the very first ones in 1929.
It is possible, but in almost every case getting a replacement screen is more expensive than replacing the set. If the TV still functions or you have another set in the house you can use, I'd recommend waiting for a good sale and buying a new TV. There are usually good sales after the Super Bowl.
First of all: There is no difference between a computer monitor and a TV set, besides the inputs. Everything's just a display, you decide what it displays, but you wouldn't put a 20" LCD monitor in your living room as your main TV set, and you wouldn't put a 60" Plasma-TV on your desk. And you the question is: Does the TV set itself allow switching of the inputs? If not, it can be either a TV set or a computer monitor, and switching will be a pain.

it can easily be turned off by going to the main menu of your cable set top. The function of a bypass light is to allow a person to bypass the box in case your set top goes down. It enables the TV to change to TV-Analog without redirecting wires onyour tv or changing the settings from cable to tv.
