The "Gospels" are merely the "first four books of the New Testament": Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
It's a name that MEN have given to them, and not referred to thusly in The Bible.
Gospel means "good news" or "glad tidings." The "gospel" is the wonderful news of God's promises to mankind: HIS DIVINELY REVEALED AND INSPIRED MESSAGE TO MAN of his coming salvation and future victory over death by the Power of God... and the Kingdom of God; the Household that God is preparing for His immense future Family [numbering as many as the grains of sand in the sea - Gen.22:17].
In this regard... the name, "the Gospels" doesn't make sense when applied to the first four books of the New Testament. It comes out this way: "The Good Newses." (???)
Nevertheless... that's what the first four books of the New Testament have come to be called by many -- "The Gospels."
