An ocean wave may be thought of consisting of the following parts:

The Crest and Trough - which are the highest and lowest points of the wave, respectively.

The Amplitude - which represents the height of the wave. This may be measured from the normal level of the water to the peak (positive amplitude), or from the trough to the peak (less commonly used).

The Wavelength - which is the distance from crest to crest or trough to trough.

The Frequency - which is a measure of the time interval between wave crests. In ocean waves, this is generally not a consistant measurement.

Unlike other types of waves, ocean waves do not present consistant, uniform characteristics.

Short answer:

The main components of the ocean are water and salt.

Explanation:

Certainly water is the main component of the ocean, or we would rather say the main component of seawater.

Salts are the next most important component, accounting for 3.5% of the oceans' by mass. These are dissolved and consist of more than a dozen anions and cations, sodium and chloride being the majority.

See related questions for this answer.

The ocean has a lot of salt in it now, 3.5% by weight, but that is not just dissolved sodium chloride (Na+, Cl-). The ocean contains calcium, magnesium, sodium and potassium with bicarbonate, sulfate, chlorine and bromine. (If you remove the water, then what is left is, by weight, Cl− 55%, Na+ 30.6%, SO42-, 4 7.7%, Mg2+ 3.7%, Ca2+ 1.2%, K+ 1.1%, Other 0.7%)

Dissolved gasses are rather a small part, less than 0.1% of mass, usually measured in milligrams per kilogram of water and are mainly oxygen(7 mg/kg), nitrogen (12 mg/kg) and carbon dioxide (90 mg/kg). The content of dissolved gasses varies with temperature and depth and other factors, so the number of milligrams per kilogram stated here is a crude approximation.

Plants and animals, whether living or not, constitute organic matter in the oceans.

There are a variety of organic materials, including fish but also including dissolved organic carbon. A large part of the biomass of the ocean is not fish, but microbes that live ocean sediments and, of course, phytoplankton and other small creatures. The estimates of organic matter in the oceans vary, but even if the biomass came to a trillion metric tons, it would not constitute as much mass as even 1% of the dissolved gasses.

Isn't there five oceans?

Though generally recognized as several 'separate' oceans, these waters comprise one global, interconnected body of salt water often referred to as the World Ocean or global ocean.[1][2] This concept of a global ocean as a continuous body of water with relatively free interchange among its parts is of fundamental importance to oceanography.[3] The major oceanic divisions are defined in part by the continents, various archipelagos, and other criteria: these divisions are (in descending order of size) the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean, the Southern Ocean (which is sometimes subsumed as the southern portions of the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans), and the Arctic Ocean (which is sometimes considered a sea of the Atlantic). The Pacific and Atlantic may be further subdivided by the equator into northerly and southerly portions. Smaller regions of the oceans are called seas, gulfs, bays and other names. There are also some smaller bodies of saltwater that are on land and not interconnected with the World Ocean, such as the Aral Sea, and the Great Salt Lake - though they may be referred to as 'seas', they are actually salt lakes.
