In the sense of practical 'as being applicable' not a lot, though it depends on the teacher how he interprets is, it's merely spiritual I'm afraid. I've done internal Martial Arts, but I don't get many benefits from it besides the relaxation and coordination.

If you want to go practical go self defense or combat sports

Another OpinionInternal martial arts can be applied as any martial art. It focuses on bring the power of the body into use, using the power of the opponent against them. While they don't appear to be as physical as the external arts, they involve most of the same principles. Properly taught, they can be very effective in self-defense.

To add ontop of the last opinion, the practicality of internal martial arts can be further demonstrated by the following allegory by Bruce Lee "If you put water into a cup, it becomes a cup, if you put water into a teapot, it becomes a teapot." If you are able to master the flow of chi throughout your body, the chi would be like the water and be able to apply it in different physical forms (goju ryu karate, monkey kungfu, shaolin Lohan, TKD etc.,). That's why you see more advanced internal martial arts practitioners, they move very little physically, but they are able to generate alot of chi from their body with just their "intent" and directing that chi flow against their opponents if they want to incorporate it into other physical forms (though it's unneccessary if you're at this level)

Are martial arts an artform?

Yes, the martial arts are unlike painting or sculpture, but they are not entirely unlike dance. Originally, the martial arts had less in common with other arts because had so many practical applications; however, modern martial arts are seldom employed in war. They are now much more commonly employed in sport. As sport is so often performed as an entertainment, it is now much more like other performing arts.

Which martial arts are both internal and external at the same time?

Most traditional martial arts include an emotional and a physical change. They teach self-discipline and respect, which I imagine you are referring to as 'internal'. All martial arts offer a physical development of skills, understanding and ability. Basically all martial arts have an internal and external aspect to them. The balance between the two is critical to being a good martial artist. Many arts stress one side or another, but they cannot exist alone. It is the whole Yin/Yang or hard/soft combination that works so well.

What is the difference between internal forms of martial arts and external forms of martial arts?

Internal/External or Soft/Hard refer to the basic tendencies of a martial art. Soft or internal arts such as Tai Chi and Aikido work on the energy and power internal to the human body, using it to redirect blows and deflect power. Hard or External arts, such as Karate, initially focus on striking and powerful blows and kicks. As one becomes more experienced in the art of choice, you discover that there are more similarities between them then there are differences. All arts have a Hard/Soft or Yin/Yang component to them. More input: Internal arts are used more in dealing with pain and controlling the body, making it do whatever you need it to do. Such as Shaolin Monks being supported by spears in the torso and extremities. In short, Internal arts condition the will and Chi (life energy) and External arts condition the actual physical aspects of the body such as pain and injury tolerance.
