The metabolism is your body's way of breaking down foods and processing them. It turns the stuff you eat into the nutrients you need and *ahem* controls the speed in which your body gets rid of waste. Fun stuff. Typically, metabolism is a luck/genetics thing. Naturally thin people generally have high metabolisms as overwieght people have slow ones. This tricky bodily function is notorious for messing up dieters all across America.
