Anyone with a previous marriage or civil union must show proof of dissolution. You may not enter a civil union with your cousin or anyone closely related to you by blood, half blood or adoption. Both parties must sign an affidavit in person before a county clerk. You must pay whatever fee the clerk of the county has set. The civil union ceremony must take place in the county where the civil union license is issued. The license is good for sixty days. The ceremony must be officiated by a judge, public official or clergy registered to officiate. The officiant must return the completed license to the county clerk within ten days. The clerk then issues the certificate of civil union.
