I can give you a simple example which completely declares the responsibilities and role of an Operation Manager in Construction Company.

We know that any kind of Vehicle is a machine (a complete mechanism) produced to be utilized for transportation purposes, here is the point!!

the vehicle cannot travel by itself there should be a person to drive it!

so,

1-the driver should understand where he planed to go and what the best and shortest way to destination is.

2-before of doing anything the driver should understand the requirements and the supply of water to Radiater, Lubricants to Engine and the amount fuel for consumption of Engine to be started over and reach the destination.

3-Whenever all the requirements are supplied, he should start the Engine and drive toward according to the speed capacity of vehicle. he should obey all the traffic rules until he reach the destination and properly park the vehicle.

Now the responsibilities of an Operation Manager in Construction Company! (HE IS THE DRIVER)

A company is a Mechanism (Machine) comprising Human and Physical Resources connected by an organizational structure and Management system.

1-The Operation Manager Should understand the Mission and Vision of Organization, he works for and he should plan the best and shortest way to reach the vision (This is the destination to be reached soon and safely)

2-The Operation manager should understand the required amount of resources (Financial , Human, Physical...) and organize them per the system requirements (like Fuel in Fuel tank, Water in Radiater, Lubricant in Engine...)

3- The Operation Manager should start and control all the performance as he planed to achieve the targeted result. during the performance phase he should take care of all the applicable terms, conditions and policy to be applied.

AT THE END THE OPERATION MANAGER IS RESPONSIBLE TO LEAD THE ORGANIZATION TOWARD THE VISION (HE SHOULD PLAN EFFICIENTLY, ORGANIZE EFFECTIVELY, LEAD DIRECTLY & PROPERLY AND CONTROL CONTINUOUSLY ALL THE ACTIVE TEAMS SERVING ORGANIZATION'S VISION)
