What are the side effects of taking Ativan and hydrocodone together?

Ativan (lorazepam) is an anti-anxiety medication. Hydrocodone is a narcotic analgesic (pain-reliever) and an anti-tussive (cough suppressant). Both medications are controlled substances and can only be obtained via a physician's prescription. One could take both medications at once in a small quantity without encountering any major side-effects except perhaps sedation.

Mixing opiates with Valium is a good way to get dead. A cause of death called "multiple drug intoxication" is what you'll find on the death cert. I lost two good friends to that...they were mixing hydrocodone with diazapam (Valium). It's a crap shoot. If you get the levels high enough, you stop breathing in your sleep.

I am just adding on to a very smart persons answer, I just lost my best friend of 20 years THAT WAS NOT A DRUG USER from the same thing. Doesn't have to be very much. Don't mix scripts

I am a nurse and have had many surgeries. After surgery I was prescribed Valium and Vicodin to take together. It managed my pain very nicely and I had returned to work already. I did not abuse this and followed the surgeon's orders to the letter.

I agree that you should not take or mix medications without a physician's order.

i am nurse RN. in my 9 years of nursing i have not heard of any danger side effects of mixing hydrocodon and depakote, only increased drowsiness which is a common side effect for each for both drugs. although you will experience side effects from each individual drug.

My grandaughter is taking Deoakote for Bipolar and we found out that she is buying vicodin illegally & taking 2-3 aday along w/ her prescribed Depakote. This can't be good!!! Need info to help her.

the effects of each drug would counteract with each other. it's never a good idea to mix an upper and a downer together, taking them at the same time. that's pretty much common sense...
