The quickest way is to select the paragraph(s) you want to change and press Ctrl - 2. Pressing Ctrl - 1 will return it to single line spacing. You can also go through the paragraph settings or pick from the spacing button on the Paragraph group on the Home tab.

To edit double spaced lines to single space lines in Word 2002 when the single space icon is chosen, you can use the following steps: Select the text you want to change. Right-click on the text and select "Paragraph" from the menu. In the Paragraph dialog box, go to the "Indents and Spacing" tab. Under the Spacing section, change the value in the "Line spacing" drop-down menu to "Single." Click OK to apply the changes.

Double spacing is having a clear blank line between each line in paragraphs of text. Select the text you want to double space. Then press and hold the Ctrl key and press 2. Ctrl and 1 will return it to single spacing. You can also go to the Format Menu and then the Paragraph option and there is a setting for Line Spacing there, which you can set to Double.
