Hallways in a residential setting are different than commercial. I can give you the basics of residential dimensions. On the main floor, a hallway should be 48 inches wide in heavy traffic areas. The hallways near the entry-way should be ideally 60 inches wide. Just for the areas directly adjacent to the entry. This is only necessary for the main entry. On the second floor, a hallway should be at least a minimum of 36 inches wide. 42 inches is the ideal and 48 inches is really spacious. Keep in mind that hallways are essentially a waste of space and it is best to minimize them to keep costs down. However, if it is necessary to have a hallway, remember that the absolute minimum would be 36 inches. Keep in mind this is only what I learned in my architectural design courses. Every state, region, city, and etc. has their own codes so check with them first. These numbers should give you a good idea of where to start. Also, the height needs to be the standard ceiling height. Just remember that the widths will very depending on the location in the residence. As I stated before, downstairs hallways will need to be wider and wider yet the closer they are to the entry, in high traffic areas, and when joining several open rooms.
Just remember local building codes supercede design standards so this info is only for information purposes. Good luck.

Length is 3/4 of 36 ie 27 ft, width is 9 ft
Area of hallway = 5ft * 4ft = 20 sq ft Cost of carpet = 2.50 per sq ft So cost of 20 sq ft = 2.50*20 = 50.00
Both "in the hallway" and "in the hallway" are correct, but they may be used in slightly different contexts. "In the hallway" is more commonly used to indicate a specific location inside the hallway, while "on the hallway" could be used in a more general sense, such as referring to something that is physically placed on the hallway floor or surface.
