a whirring noise coming from the starter
the bendix gear on the starter is stuck on the flywheel remove starter check bendix gear for wear if worn to bad replace starter
It may or may not.. depends on how bad it is, and exactly what's wrong with it... the solenoid and bendix might function fine, and you'll still hear the click of the bendix extending out, but the starter internals could be faulty. The bendix might not extend far enough to engage the starter gear teeth. The solenoid might be burned out, and you won't hear that click at all.
if the started doesnt do anything its the solenoid if it just clicks and spins its the bendix
One of two things. Either your bendix is bad on your starter (best case) or you have a bad spot on your flywheel and the transmission has to come out. Try turning the motor by hand a quarter of a turn. if it will start after that once then your flywheel is bad. It it doesn't the it's probably the bendix. Good luck.
