That's what I'm trying to find out, in 1996 1st was London with 6'967'000, 2nd was Birmingham with 1'008'000, 3rd was Leeds with 724'000, 4th was Glasgow with 680'000, 5th was Liverpool with 474'000, 6th was Edinburgh with 444'000, 7th was Manchester with 431'000, 8th was Cardiff with 414'000, 9th was Bristol with 399'000 and 10th was Belfast with 297'000. But remember that was 1996!

By overall population, the ten largest cities in order are:

London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Leicester and Nottingham Largest Cities in the UK This is a list of the largest cities in the United Kingdom. Note that the population statistic for London refers to Greater London which according to the "official definition" is not considered a city. Greater London is not a city in the proper sense that the word applies in the United Kingdom, that of being a status granted by the Crown. In addition, one of the London boroughs, Westminster, is already a city, as well as the City of London itself which would make such a status anomalous.

Birmingham 7.2 Million

Bradford 992000

Bristol 720000

Cardiff 560000

Coventry 512000

Edinburgh 467000

Glasgow 450000

Leeds 440000

Leicester 420000

Liverpool 380000

London 316000

Manchester 310000

Nottingham 305000

Sheffield 285000

Wakefield 280000
