2. Sedimentary Rock - formed by burial, compression, and chemical cementation of deposited weathered rock debris or sediments from the Earth's surface. They can also be formed by the precipitation of minerals from saturated solutions, such as is rock salt.
- Examples: shale, sandstone, gypsum, limestone, chert, coal.
3. Metamorphic Rock - created when existing rock is chemically or physically modified by intense heat or pressure.
- Examples: quartzite, slate, marble, granulite, schist.
