There are actually four "groups", or houses, in Hogwarts: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin.
They are called houses.
Students at Hogwarts are divided into four houses:

The Hogwarts gamekeeper (also known as the Hogwarts groundskeeper) is a Wizard employed by Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to tend to and look after the grounds of the school, as well as the security of Hogwarts Castle. It is Rubeus Hagrid.
Hogwarts was founded in the 9th or 10th century, an exact date is unknown.

The "school for magic" in Harry Potter is Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. There are four houses and each one bears the name of the four founders of Hogwarts, respectively: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin.
The four houses are named after the founders of Hogwarts, Godric Gryffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw, Helga Hufflepuff and Salazar Slytherin who were all brilliant wizards. The houses appear to be famous because nearly all of the characters in the book have at some point attended Hogwarts and been around these houses.
