The speed of a wave is principally determined by the molecular density (number of molecules/volume)and to a lesser degree mass density (mass/volume). Other factors such as temperature, pressure, state, etc. affect these first two factors, and thus affect the speed of sound in the medium.

What factors affect the speed of sound in a medium?

Temperature, coefficient of restitution, density are some of the factors that affect the speed of sound in a medium.

What three properties of a medium affect the speed of a sound?

The three properties of a medium that affect the speed of sound are elasticity, density, and temperature. Answered by: Nur _ _ _ _ _ _ Izyani

How does the medium affect the speed of sound?

actually medium has amain role in the speed of sound, In air the sound can move faster while comparing to any other medium like liquid ,solid

What factors affect the speed of wave?

Some factors that affect the speed of sound waves are density of medium, temperature, direction of wind, and humidity. Remember that a sound wave is just a pressure disturbance that travels through a medium by particle interactions. The nature of the medium will affect the sound waves velocity.

What are three propertys of a medium affect the speed of sound?

There are many properties. Temperature medium are examples.

In general how does changing the temperature of a medium affect the speed of sound through that medium?

As the temperature of the medium increases, so does the speed of sound. As the temperature decreases the speed of sound decreases (this is true for air, at least). To calculate speed of sound in air: V = 331 + 0.59T where T is the air temperature in degrees C.

How does the frequency of a sound wave affect the speed at which the sound wave moves?

Frequency and speed of propagation of the wave are independent of one another. The medium determines the speed of propagation.

How does the medium affect the speed of a sound wave?

medium really affect the speed of sound the big example in front of us is sun as there are a lot of explosions on the surface of sun because of nuclear reactions but we cant hear them because there is a vaccum between earth and sun.

How a medium affect sound?

Sound speed is changing with medium. Metal medium has high speedsfor sound.

As the temperature of a medium increases the rate of speed of sound through the medium what?

The speed of sound through the medium also increases.

What can affect the speed at which sound travels?

The most relevant answer to this question is medium, the most prime factor affecting the rate of sound travel is the medium which carries the sound waves, sound is fastest in solids and slowest in viscous fluids.

Why is the speed of sound slower then the speed of light?

The sound needs a medium to be transported. Without that medium (vacuum) there is no sound. The sound is blocked by air mulecules. The light does not need a medium.
