1) Solids are more stable than Liquids which are in turnn more stable than gases

2) Solids usually occupy less volume than liquids which in turn occupy less volume

than gases (except in the case of water which occupies a greater volume when it

is in the solid state as ice)

3) The internal energy stored in a solid is less than the internal energy stored in a

liquid, which in turn is less than the internal energy stored in a gas.
