Bacteria live all over and throughout the human body. Bacteria living in our intestines are critical for our digestion, and we need them to live healthily. Others can cause many diseases if they get into or onto our bodies and begin growing.

Bacteria can be harmful and give diseases to plants and animals. It can also convert nitrogen to nitrogen compounds. This process makes nitrogen available to plants that is useful to them. Bacteria can also poison the human body with chemicals they produce and release.

Why is cyanide harmless to some bacteria?

Because some bacteria are anaerobic (do not need oxygen to survive). In humans and other aerobic organisms, cyanide prevents cells from respiring (turning oxygen and glucose into energy) so they run out of energy and die. Anaerobic bacteria produce energy in other ways, so cyanide doesn't harm them. (:

Name three ways bacteria are helpful?

Decomposers are bacteria that break down dead organisms for use as food and energy sources. they break down large chemicals found in dead organisms into smaller chemicals that are then returned to the environment for other organisms to use. nitrogen-fixing bacteria change nitrogen from the air into forms of nitrogen that plants and animals can use. Bacteria play a large role in food production and spoilage, like pickles that are made from cucumbers and cheese. the negitave bacteria spoils milk. Bacteria are also used in medication. people with diabetes are unable to create their own insulin, but because of insulin-producing bacteria there is now an artificial supply for these people.
