What is touchscreen used for?

A touch screen has two functions:-

1. As a computer display
2. As a means of interacting with the computer's applications.

The surface of a normal commuter screen is covered in a mesh which senses the position and movement of one or more fingers allowing the user to control the applications with gestures.

On a tablet computer or phone screen, the facility is useful. However on a desktop computer most users find using a mouse better.

Touch screens are used to make it more convenient to access the internet on smaller devices, such as a smartphone. Touch screens are also used for handicapped individuals so that they can also access the Internet or work on a computer.

Touch Screen is basically a GUI (Graphical User Interface) which can be activated through different touch gestures of fingers or types of touches (e.g. Single touch, Double touch or Slide touch).

When end user touches on the screen, the microscopic linear conductive element layer below the screen determines the X-axis and Y-axis co-ordinates of the Touch Point and calculates the location of the touch (i.e. touch point(x , y)).

Any icon of the menu or any Graphical Representation, which has some meaning leading to some actions or operations after the touch, has some fixed x , y co-ordinates. Mobile Processor compares all these Fixed x , y co-ordinates with the one which is calculated by the Touch Screen as discussed in above paragraph. If it finds any nearest fix co-ordinates of any icon matching with the one which is calculated by the Touch Screen then Processor confirms that icon as the touched one by the user and proceeds with the actions and operations leading to the Touch of that icon.
