The general term for an environmental factor that causes a population to decrease is a limiting factor. Some examples are emigration and mortality, a lack of resources, natural disasters happen which makes people scared to to live there so the people flee, and habitat loss.

But, contributing factors to ANY population decrease: introduced species, competition with livestock, extirpation through hunting or trapping (or simply an excess thereof), poaching due to the illegal sale of protected animal products, the live animal trade, destruction of habitat, pollution of habitat, habitat changes due to human or other influences, interactions with humans, loss of breeding ground/area/nesting-areas/other, poison, loss of feeding grounds or sources of food, loss of wintering grounds, and other effects through changes in the ecosystem (the extirpation of wolves in Yellowstone cause the beaver population to leave).
