Asperger's can be listed on Axis IV in connection with a medical disorder.

If there is mental retardation involved this would go on Axis II.

Otherwise, asperger's seems to fit best on Axis I.

There is no specific code for autism. As autism covers a wide range of symptoms and behaviors it is split into two classifications and two DSM-5 codes:

  • 315.39 Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorder (SCD)(ICD-9 code F80.89)
  • 299.00 Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) (ICD-9 code F84.0)

Autism spectrum disorders are considered an Axis I diagnosis in the DSM-IV.

generally, it is axis II. If the consumer suffers primarily from psychological issues stemming from MR, it may be categorized at axis I instead.
