From what I understand birds don't live in fields unless a tree is available. Some areas can have ground nests depending on the bird however, most birds you see in fields live on the edge of the field in a wooded area and these birds are probably bird of prey. The field is their feeding ground.
Im not sure if any do, most put them in trees away from predators and also it is convenient to fly into and out of for birds.
