How should Muslims treat their wife?

A Muslim man is to respect his wife and treat her with the same kindness that he treats his mother. He should not hit her. He should help her in the housework. He should be honest to her. He should provide for all of her needs. If there is something in her which he does not like, he should focus on all the other things in her which he does like. Muhammad said: "The best one among you is he who is best towards his family ( wife and children )".

According to the classical Islamic teachings, a wife and husband have equal reghts. A wife is required to cooperate with her husband for the smooth running of the home. It is recommended that she present herself for the material desires of her husband and takes care of herself and of husband's property and honour in his absence. She is not at all supposed to take up a job to support the family. That is a duty of husband NOT wife. She can just relax in the home if she wants.

Wife's duty is more to run and manage the home and care for the children. The man's duty is to provide a living and means of support to the family.

It really depends on the man. Some Muslims are open and modern and really allow their wives to practice their faith as equals and teach it to their children as well as them teaching Islam to the child. Most, however, are stricter and are not used to sharing a home between two religions. This can cause animosity and problems in the relationship. However, it is unlikely that you will be pressured into converting yourself.

He should treat his wife with kindness, love, respect. She should see him in good appearance. He should satisfy her sexual needs and enjoy with her the pleasure of sex and pleasure of cooperation in raising up their children (if any).
