if you are referring to the evaporation system in a car, you will get check engine lights and/or the vehicle will not run properly.
This may be due to a blocked vent or evaporation line. Or maybe the solenoid of the Evaporation Vent can stop working properly due to dust etc. especially if you do a lot of driving in dusty conditions. If it is this, just replace the solenoid.
