Really, there's nothing that can be used instead. Nothing else masks the sent as effectivly as deodorant. Most deodorants have anti-perspirants in them as well, cutting down on the actual amount of sweat.
But if you really don't want to use deoderant you could use talc powder. It will stop you sweating for a while but the only draw back would be that your clothes will get powder on them too. If you like to wear black then I wouldn't use it.
