You can provide a mineral salt block for free choice eating - these are the reddish-brown blocks next to the white salt blocks in most feed and tractor supply stores.

In addition to the above answer, it should be kept in mind that horses have been known to lick their tongues raw on salt or mineral blocks and once they do they typically will no longer use them. If that occurs you can have your current feed analyzed by a equine nutritionist, equine vet, or even at some feed stores. Once you know exactly what is missing from the diet, they can recommend a ration balancer or a specific supplement that would work just as well.

Put a mineral block in his stall. You can get these at most tack shops. There are also bigger mineral blocks for the pasture. There are also general supplements that have essential mineral in them. Browse your tack shop for these or ask around. If you are worried your horse is still not getting all his minerals, talk to your vet.

Here are some solutions

  • Add some salt to the horse's water or add a salt lick to its stall of field, but clean it with a hose every so often.
  • Once a day give it some apple, carrot or turnip.

You can place small ones in their stalls or place larger ones in the pasture. Horses who lack minerals will instinctively be guided to lick from the blocks. If you want to be positive that your horses is getting it's minerals though, you can buy mineral supplements that can be placed on top of its grain.
