It is illegal to intentionally be cruel to animals. If the minor is shooting lizards, bugs, frogs and such, it is very unlikely that they will have any sort of criminal action pressed against them. However, if what they are doing is actually causing injury to animals such as dogs, cats, or rabbits, then they may be facing a legal problem. What they are doing may be classed as cruelty to animals.

A second thought is trespassing. In many US states, if this person does not live there, they can be trespassed from your property. If they come after the trespass is issued, they can be arrested. If this route is followed, it will not matter if there is injury or animal type. They just can't legally step foot back on your property.

Just to set you mind at ease a small bit, there is this. This is not to condone the act in anyway, but most paintball guns, shot from more then a few feet away, will sting and maybe welt a larger animal such as a cat or dog. However, unless they are being shot in the face or at a very close range, it will not likely cause them serious injury. Seeing the animal has no idea what is going on, it still scares them pretty bad. It just should not be done.
