It sounds like it might be a case of vapor lock in the fuel line; the engine is starved for fuel because the gas cannot get to it. Once the engine cools, the vapor lock dissipates and the engine can then function properly. Pour in a fuel tank additive which will dissolve any moisture in the tank and run the engine for about ten minutes. Depending on how much moisture is in the tank, you may have to repeat the procedure.
