Caesar trusted Brutus and even accepted his death because he thought if Brutus thinks he should be dead, then he must need to be. He just never thought he was going to be ambushed by the conspirators-he did at one time suspect something suspicious about Cassius because skinny people are too ambitious, which is why he wanted "fat" people next to him all the time.
