This happened to our 2003 Vue. I had just had the brakes replaced and they had not done this properly, something to do with the 'calipers', so the car sounded like a bucket of bolts everytime I put on the brakes. Have them look at the rear brakes especially if you've just had them replaced.
A car that is in good running condition should not make a clunking noise. If a person pushes the gas and brake pedal at the same time causing a car to make a clunking noise, that is an indication of stain on the motor.
The brake pads are probably worn. If not repaired, then the metal backer of the brake pads can cut into and damage the brake rotors. Noise is a sign to check the brakes as soon as possible.
It may me that your brake is on.
Common causes of disc brake noises include worn brake pads, rotor damage, and debris buildup. To resolve these issues, replace worn brake pads, resurface or replace damaged rotors, and clean the brake components to remove debris. Regular maintenance and inspection can help prevent brake noises.
Clunking noises from your brakes can be caused by several issues, including worn brake pads, loose or damaged hardware, or issues with the calipers. If the brake pads are excessively worn, they may not sit properly, leading to movement and clunking when braking. Additionally, loose components or debris trapped in the braking system can also create noise. It's important to have your brakes inspected by a professional to ensure safety and proper functioning.
The three types of brake noises are squealing, grinding, and clicking. Squealing noises usually indicate worn brake pads, grinding noises suggest metal-on-metal contact, and clicking noises may signal a loose brake component. These noises can be identified by paying attention to when they occur, such as during braking or while driving, and by inspecting the brake system for any visible issues.
Yes, a blown brake light fuse causes the shift interlock to malfunction. If the interlock can't tell if the brake is depressed or not, it won't shift out of park. The brake light fuse is a 15A in the engine bay fuse box.
Check the strut assembly on the side that is making the noise. It is possible that the strut is starting to go and that's what is making the noise. This may especially be true if you can make the clunking sound happen by pulsing the brakes as the car is moving forward. I just went through a similar problem with a 1997 SL2. The car had only 78,000 original miles when I had new brake calipers and brake lines installed (by a friend) and shortly afterward the car developed a "clunking" noise during hard right turns. We, the friend and I, checked damn near everything and though I felt it had to be related to the brake work the friend, who is a much more experienced mechenic felt otherwise. We installed new axle assemblies on both sides to no avail and I decided to allow the problem to get worse to mak locating it simpler. Finally, after about six months of use the problem got severe enough that I was becoming concerned. The noise started appearing even while braking with the wheels straight. I finally took the car to a Saturn dealer and they located a brake line that had been installed incorrectly and was rubbing on the rotating wheel assembly during certain manuvers, including turning and sometimes when braking. The brake line was worn almost completely through and was on the verge of breaking and replacing the line eliminated the problem. So much for my friends expertise!!
They might be making squealing or scratchy noises when you brake
Some common brake noises that can indicate issues with a vehicle's braking system include squealing, grinding, and clicking sounds. Squealing noises may indicate worn brake pads, while grinding noises could signal metal-on-metal contact and the need for immediate attention. Clicking noises may suggest a problem with the brake calipers or hardware. It is important to address any unusual brake noises promptly to ensure the safety and proper functioning of the vehicle's braking system.
This could be the breaks needing replaced, could be a wheel bearing that needs replaced.
